Last week we visited the Themi Primary School in Arusha for the Menstrual Health Education project. In collaboration with REEpads Tanzania and in attendence of the Ward Councilor, Mr. Kinabo, we educated 233 girls between 10 and 15 years.
The initiative aims to empower young girls with knowledge on menstrual health, promote self-awareness, and provide sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions.
The program involved an interactive learning session led by the facilitators, where girls were encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, and share their experiences. The safe and open environment allowed meaningful discussions and improved understanding of menstrual health.
In addition to the educational session, 110 girls received REEpads reusable sanitary pads, along with guidance on proper use, care, cleaning, and maintenance.
The choice by Destiny Hope Foundation to support reusable sanitary pads form REEPads, not only addresses menstrual health challenges, but also reflects a responsible and forward-thinking approach to environmental care.

We had a visitor from Kenya/The Netherlands who is staying Kenya at the moment. He was a teacher on sustainable agriculture, so we were happy that he also inspected the new compost heap of Mrs Mary and the field plots that were enriched with home made compost manure last year. This was from the first F2F education by Mr Solomon, an agriculture officer, who is our main agricultural teacher for our projects.
Kees van Veluw, our special guest was very pleased with the progress that the farmer had made from making their own compost heaps and working with this material in the field of maize. He told about common agricultural methods that would reduce pesticides and needs less fertilizer.
After his trip he made a report for DHF about the possible improvements in agriculture and is trying to return to us in the summer for some teachings to farmers. We hope he will.
Mr. Solomon is preparing a new F2F project in another village this Summer/Autumn, so the compost will be ready for the next planting season.
If would like to support this visits of Mr. Kees while he is in Kenya, you can support him with a donation on our soil project here: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/nourish-tanzania-fertile-soil-flourishing-future/

Last week we had the annual TreeGivingDay, where we distributed a total of 2,800! Grevillia trees to different people and places in Olidonyong’iro and to farmers from all five benefiting villages in the area: Shishtoni, Mbaaseni, Muungano and Malula.
The total number of trees from Projectburo De Laat and others on the Global Giving platform: 2,000.
• Beneficiary village: Oldonyong’iro
• Total beneficiaries: 123 farmers
• Trees distributed to farmers: 1,476
• Trees allocated to King’ori Primary School: 150
• Trees allocated to Mareu Health Centre: 150
• Trees allocated to Oldonyong’iro Churches: 150
• Trees allocated to Oldonyong’iro Mosque: 50
In addition, we received 800 trees donated by Global Agency for International Development Inc, which were distributed to 80 beneficiaries.
All the people who have received these new trees, have been instructed how to take care of them. If you do care well, you get in 5 years time fuelwood, timber, shade for crops and improved soil around the tree. Our guest Kees van Veluw took part in this event to see that everything is done like we tell you it goes! 😀
If you want to participate next year, just look at our projectpage at Global Giving: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/offsetting-co2-by-planting-trees-in-tanzania/

We had a very special visitor from Kenya last week. Kees van Veluw, former Wageningen University & Research teacher and researcher permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and Agroforestry, visited on invitation of Projectburo De Laat from the Netherlands our water and agricultural projects and handed out trees on our TreeGivingDay this year.
He talked with local farmers and the Environmental Conservation Committee about their daily agricultural habits and challenges, and ways to improve their soil and with this their production and income.
After a day safari he returned to Nairobi, where he and his wife are living and working for the next 2 years. Kees made a report with suggestions for improvements for Destiny Hope Foundation in general and for more sustainable agriculture in Tanzania.
We are very greatful for his visit and hope he stays connected to our projects.

Hi dear friends & donors, we have exiting news about the goatproject, because the first goat kid has been born! 🥳
The other 3 goats in this project are still pregnant, but will deliver soon we hope. The dairy goat project was initiated as a pilot program with 4 dairy goats in Mareu Village, Kwa Filipo sub-village on October 2025. The pilot group comprises 20 members, who are collectively working to improve household income and nutrition through sustainable dairy goat farming.
According to the project model, the first and second offspring (kids) from each goat will be passed on to new members, while the original goats remain with the initial farmers. This “pass-on” system ensures sustainability, inclusivity, and the gradual expansion of benefits to the wider community.
In the first phase, hopefully 8 new goats will be distributed to new members. As the project progresses, the first and second generations of kids (a total of 16) will also be given to additional members.

We have exiting news about Violeth, the girl we support in her education. She recent graduated from secondary school and this week she started a 2 years education program for Tour Guide at The Help to Self Help Vocational Training College in Arusha, Tanzania.
This is a NGO also, where student can learn a variety in courses. Look at https://hsh.or.tz/ for more information. Violeth lives too far from this school to attend a daily course, so she will be intern with clothes, meals and hostel, so she can interact with other students and has enough time to study in the evening and she can attend special events.
Pendaeli has agreed to support her after she graduates from this course in the way that she can start an internship at Destination Specialists to gain expierience.
For this course we search additional funding, like $2,000 for the comming 2 years, Peter de Laat and his wife agreed to basic support, but more help would be very appreciated by Violeth, so she has no worries for completing this course, other than study hard. 😀
More informatie on the Global Giving micro project website below, and think about this project at the Little by Little campaign, 17-20 March.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting representatives from four villages – Shishton, Muungano, Mbaaseny, and Ngajisosia, who gathered at the Makilenga office to receive donated water pipe rolls. A total of 32! rolls were distributed based on the specific needs and current situations of each village, as outlined below:
1. Shishton Village – 2 rolls
2. Muungano Village – 13 rolls
3. Mbaaseny Village – 11 rolls
4. Ngajisosia Village – 6 rolls
The village representatives expressed their sincere gratitude for the support. The women, in particular, shared their appreciation, noting that the improved access to water will significantly reduce the long distances they and their children previously traveled to fetch water. This will allow women to dedicate more time to their income-generating activities, while children will have more time to focus on their studies after school hours.
Village leaders, Pastors and the Makilenga Water Project office management also conveyed their deep appreciation for your continued efforts to help alleviate water challenges across the five wards, comprising 22 villages. They kindly requested your ongoing support as they work toward achieving sustainable solutions to their water supply challenges.

On 25th March 2025 we had our last local Tree Giving Day. We distributed 2,000! trees to farmers at Oldonyong’iro village.
They have planted the trees along their plots. This is for shade for the plants and animals, for strengthening the biodiversity and for later for some wood production.
This year we like to plant again so many trees, but we can use some more support to reach that goal! We need $1 per tree (seedling) for the tree, the transport and care of the first years, so that is not so much.
So if you are a frequent flyer and want to compensate CO2 emissions, plant trees with us.
Donations made before 31 Januari, will be in Tanzania in March, so we can use them this planting season.
For now, to donate go to Global Giving by following the link below.

Happy New year from Tanzania. We hope to make more impact dan we did last year, but for now we have fresh energy for 2026!
Soon the new school year starts here in Tanzania. In the project Food- en schoolsupplies we deliver books and stationaries, like pencils or pens. When we come it is always a warm welcome from the children, who want to learn and build a better live.
We have another project, ‘Send 10 children to school in Tanzania’, where we support single children, who come to us for support on their school career, from primairy school to secondary or beyond. We have a student now who had done here final exams, hope she passed them!
And last we work wit REEpadsTanzania on Menstrual Health Education for Tanzanian students, where also reusable sanitary pads are distributed to girls who need them.
Check out the project reports on Global Giving for more information and maybe we can give some children a good start in 2026!
